Assistant Downtown Manager

Job Overview: The Marketing Coordinator for Plainfield SID will play a key role in enhancing the district's vibrancy and economic vitality through innovative marketing strategies. This position involves a balance of creativity, community engagement, and analytical skills, focusing on promoting Plainfield's unique business environment and community events. 


Key Responsibilities: Community Engagement: Develop marketing initiatives that highlight the unique qualities of the Plainfield SID, engaging local businesses, residents, and visitors. 


Campaign Management: Implement and oversee marketing campaigns tailored to the needs of Plainfield's diverse business community, including retail, dining, and service industries. 


Event Promotion: Coordinate marketing efforts for SID-sponsored events, such as street fairs, cultural festivals, and business expos, to boost community participation and commerce. 


Digital Presence: Manage and enhance Plainfield SID's online presence, including website, social media channels, and email marketing, ensuring consistent and appealing content. 


Collateral Development: Create and distribute marketing materials, such as flyers, newsletters, and brochures, that promote the district and its events. 


Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the SID, local businesses, city officials, and community organizations to ensure cohesive marketing efforts and community engagement. 


Market Research: Conduct research to understand the needs of the business community and residents, using insights to shape marketing strategies. 


Reporting and Analysis: Monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and provide reports on key metrics to SID management and stakeholders.


Qualifications: 

* Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field. 

* 2+ years of experience in marketing, community relations, or event coordination. 

* Familiarity with the Plainfield area and its business ecosystem. 

* Strong skills in digital marketing, content creation, and social media management. 

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

* Proven ability to work effectively with diverse community groups and stakeholders. 

* Creative and strategic thinking, with an ability to bring fresh, innovative ideas to the role. 


Work Environment: This role involves both office work and on-site visits within the Plainfield SID. Flexibility to work during events, which may occur during weekends and evenings, is essential. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about community development and excited to be a part of Plainfield’s growth and transformation. Plainfield SID Intern

 Job Description

Organizational Background: The Plainfield Special Improvement District is the district management corporation formed to manage the

Plainfield Special Improvement District. It is governed by a board of trustees consisting of business, property owners and the community at large. The PSID serves as the primary agency promoting and enhancing the economic and social vitality of downtown Plainfield attracting people to live, work, play, dine and shop by promoting local merchants, recruiting new businesses, staging and collaborating on events, and beautifying our streetscapes.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Intern provides support for the Plainfield Special Improvement District., with the coordination and execution of special events, programs, and promotions; and helps with the development of Social Media Marketing and Marketing Email campaigns. The intern helps with communication with the downtown business owners and managers to promote downtown Plainfield programming. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter looking for experience in marketing/communications, and event planning/coordination. The intern must manage multiple priorities simultaneously, be able to work independently, and have strong organizational, writing, and communication skills while adhering to programmatic deadlines.


Primary Responsibilities

The Intern performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:

• Aids the Executive Director in the development, organization, and execution of programs and events

that align with PSID missions and supports the organization’s goals.

• Writes/edits designated PSID publications including newsletters, press releases, and calendar.

• Creates and monitors content for social media including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

• Aids in the coordination of community outreach in support of events and programs.

• Aids in the collection of data to evaluate programs, events, and digital media campaigns to inform

analytics reporting.

• Shares the responsibility of being on-site staff for designated organizational activities.

• Helps with the updating of district business/property owner list.

• General office responsibilities include phone, filing, mail/email inquiries, office supplies.

• All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Skills

• Working towards a BA or BS degree in communications, marketing, or a relevant field.

• Strong project management ability, particularly with diverse stakeholders.

• Experience with event planning and coordination, and familiarity working with vendors, volunteers

and seasonal staff.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or similar software preferred.

• Familiarity with Constant Contact, Word Press, and website management systems.

• Experienced with building content and managing social media including Facebook, Twitter,

Instagram, LinkedIn.

• Knowledgeable with marketing strategies, media relations, and digital marketing.

• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines while balancing multiple projects and stakeholders.

• Ability to generate new and imaginative ideas.

• Excellent oral communications, customer service, business, and creative writing skills.

• Strategic thinker, progressive problem solver, and the ability adapt to change.

• Flexible schedule: must be able to work on some weekends, evenings, and mornings as necessary.

• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Supervisor

The Intern reports directly to the Downtown Manager.

Location:

The position is located at 131 A North Ave, Plainfield NJ 07060

Hours:

Flexible - Preferably M, W, F 10:00PM – 3:00PM plus some weekend hours, as needed.

Compensation: $1500 Stipend at the close of the 16 week internship
